Why Another Podcast about Books?

Our lives have been immeasurably enriched through books. We love reading for the stimulation, stories, and ideas it provides. In a visually oriented culture, books remain an unparalleled way to learn, grow, and be entertained. As C.S. Lewis said, “You can't get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

We believe you will be entertained and (yes) educated about books by tuning in here. We love talking about books almost as much as we enjoy reading them—and we’d love for you to join us!

Who We Are

Through no fault of his own, Stan Guthrie is the author or coauthor of seven books, including Victorious: Corrie ten Boom and The Hiding Place (Paraclete, 2019). He has also written, edited, represented, and contributed to about 50 more titles, some of which are still in print. Besides working with Doug LeBlanc at Christianity Today, Stan has served as a writer and editor for EMQ, World Pulse, The Boca Raton News, and other outlets that you may or may not have heard of. A distressing number of them have since gone out of business.

His work has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, BreakPoint.org, Books & Culture, and The Federalist. Stan has been a guest on too many radio shows to count (at least for him), most recently “Mornings with Kurt & Kate” on Moody Radio Florida. Currently he is minister of communications at a church in Naperville, Illinois, where it snows and rains too much.

Stan has been married to Christine since 1987 and likes her very much. With Christine having done most of the work, they have three adult children (and, shockingly, three grandchildren). Stan was born with a disability that does not define him, but he will tell you about it (and God’s grace) if you ask.

Doug LeBlanc is an associate editor of The Living Church magazine and a member of the Anglican Church in North America. Doug has a decades-long interest in how Christianity engages with culture.

Doug grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he worked for the daily newspaper while studying journalism at Louisiana State University. Doug and his wife, Monica, met at church in Baton Rouge, and they’ve been married since 1988. Doug loved the people, the music, and the food of southern Louisiana, but is unlikely to live there again.

Doug is the author of Tithing: Test Me in This (Thomas Nelson, 2010), which his friend Phyllis Tickle asked him to write for a series on Ancient Practices of the Christian Church.
