An Amazing and Substantial Life

My mother, Irene Guthrie, is 88 years old today.

My mother, Irene Guthrie, is 88 years old today. Mom has lived an amazing, substantial life.

She survived scarlet fever as a child, the burning down of her home when she was a teenager in Alabama, a brain infection and cancer during middle age, the loss of her beloved Morris later in life, and, this past year, the untimely loss of her daughter, Gina.

With my dad she raised three children, including a sensitive child with a disability (me), daily offering love, encouragement, advocacy, and hope. She and Dad were significant and generous influences in the lives of their eight grandchildren. Mom is revered in our family and dearly loved by all.
